President Clinton In Town?

May 18th, 2006 Shelby, MT-
Getting looks and stares from most all who passed by today was a big, long Fleetwood Cadillac limo. Parked on Main St. for most of the afternoon, the elegant black car with dark tinted windows was starting rumors flying and we at NBMC are not going to stop that trend... Hint, the car is from Washington, D.C. but came here from Texas... President Clinton In Town?

Save The Net

Congress is about to sell out the Internet by letting big phone and cable companies set up toll booths along the information superhighway.

Companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are spending tens of millions in Washington to kill "network neutrality" -- a principle that keeps the Internet open to all.

A bill moving quickly through Congress would let these companies become Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow -- and which won't load at all -- based on who pays them more. The rest of us will be detoured to the "slow lane," clicking furiously and waiting for our favorite sites to download.

Don't let Congress ruin the Internet:

Hugh M. Hefner is 80

Editorial Comment:
So, Hugh M. Hefner is 80 now... In an AP interview, don't you just love Associated Press, Yuck, Hef said that today's sexual acceptance climate is colder than the 1950s... Burrrrrrr!!! Well, I think he is right. At least as the US "general" public goes. Most seem to have a burning need to express how "moral" they are. Larry Flynt, you know, Hustler mag, etc, said in the late 90s, while discussing his private jet, that big name evangelists have a lot of money at stake. The money they are raking in from pensioners and widows and such... Larry Flynt: "If obscenity exists, I told Moral Majority preacher Jerry Falwell when I debated him on the Larry King show recently, it's him riding around in a private jet paid for out of collection trays and from the social security checks of pensioners," says Flynt. "People like Falwell are selling religion and there are people out there who need this to help them get through their daily lives. The Falwell's of this world are perfectly willing to tell people how to behave so long as they get paid and paid well. Evangelists usually feel guilty about using their aircraft," observes Flynt. "And, they don't like to admit that they fly private jets." I say, nothing much gets their followers up in arms more than sex. That in turn opens their pocketbooks... What do you think?

Hefner Trivia:
* Every Sunday night at the Playboy Mansion Hefner hosts a movie night. He has an elaborate collection of films atop the spiraling staircase of his bedroom.
* "The stuff that dreams are made of", a favorite quotation which Hefner often uses to refer to the success of Playboy, comes from a quotation by Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon, although both are misquotations from Act IV, Scene I of Shakespeare's The Tempest ("We are such stuff as dreams are made on").
* In a 2005 interview with Time magazine, Hefner said he is a direct descendant of William Bradford, a Puritan who came over on the ship Mayflower.
* It has been reported that Hefner has either a room or floor to himself in the Drake Hotel in Chicago though this is unverified.

Courtney Love Sells 25%

Courtney Love has sold 25% of Nirvana'’s back catalog of music to a former Virgin Record general manager for more than 50 million dollars. See the story at Rolling Stone in their News section. How long do you think the $50 ml will last given her past spending habits? What about that legend that she had something to do with Kurt Cobain's death? Do you feel that she should have received 98% of the rights to the music and the other band members got 2%?

.xxx vs. .kids

First there was .com that grew the Internet. Now, and for some time, there has been a movement to add the .xxx domain extention for adult content sites. The ones supporting it feel that it would allow a way for parents, etc. to block browsers from being able to access adult based sites. However, the Free Speech Coalition opposes .xxx and sites several "slippery slope" issues that could not only adversely affect the adult content providers but everyone else as well. They propose instead that a .kids domain extention be created, saying that it would be easier for parents to implement the blocking of all offensive and harmful to children web content. It would then be similar to how modern television sets have password protected channels. That would allow adults to access the full Internet plus, it would give minors their own safe zone on the Internet. Minors would only be able to access minor friendly content websites through .kids and be isolated from the rest of the Internet. That way, the rest of the Internet would remain open and allowed to grow and evolve as it has in the past. You can read what the Free Speech Coalition has to say at the above link. Then let us and other BLOG NBMC readers know what do you think?

Xtreme Hounds, Alaska Or Bust

NBMC, Shelby Photo
March, 21st, 2006 Shelby, Montana-
Xtreme Hounds, Alaska Or Bust
Today we had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Dave and Tessa Peterson who were traveling with their sled dogs to Alaska. They call their sledding venture Extreme Hounds and judging by the trophies they display in the above photo, those dogs live up to their name sake. Dave and Tessa really love their dogs and it shows. The dogs travel in warmth and comfort in the custom trailer which Dave built. At first glance you might think that the dogs have little room, but looking closer, I could see that each compartment is quite large and lined with clean straw. Besides that, there are two dogs to a compartment so they stay even warmer and have companionship. Today the Peterson family was stocking up on fuel (100 gallons) so that they would not have to make too many more stops on their way to Fairbanks. They told NBMC that they make their summer home in Alaska and other times in Park Rapids, Minnesota. We would like to say what a great couple they are but that would be lacking because they are really a trio. Pictured above with them is their son, Miles. He did nothing but grin and coo the whole time we stood out freezing in the cold weather.

Strangest Story

The strangest story which I covered this past week was about a runaway truck that destroyed a gas pump. The unattended pickup rolled uphill, that's right, uphill and then wiped out the fuel pump and nearly knocked down the canopy above it. Click here to see this story. This link is only good for one week after post date. After that it moves to our past news pages and then to the archive.
