The Steen House

The "Steen House", is at present, the only known home of Lee Steen that is still intact. His home in Roundup, Montana was demolished after his death. The land is now a small park with no indication or marker to state that Lee owned it or that he lived and worked there. The Steen House is now up for sale for the first time in 45 years. We at LeeSteen.org are doing all we can to purchase and preserve this historic and one of a kind house. Not only do we feel that it is vital to save the house, we also want to see it restored and made available for tours. This small house and grounds would also make a great interpretive center for Outsider art. The house is selling for a very modest price, so modest, that we fear another purchaser may tear it down to make way for "new" development. We have made several offers in the form of Contract For Deed to the owner, but she has refused them and will only accept a full cash payment. If you want to help save this historical treasure, please do. To make a donation, or if you have other sugestions on how best to save the Steen House, please call 1-406-470-0971. You may also make an instant donation, of any size, by clicking the link below. Unless you prefer to remain anonymous, we will send you a heart felt, thank you letter and an itemizing of your donation. We are not a non-profit organization, thus, your donation is not tax deductable. Please do note that, first and foremost, your donation(s) will be used to try and save the Steen House. If we can not purchase the Steen House in time, we will not give up and will continue the fight. All donations will then go to further efforts to save the Steen House. We will not use any of the money for personal gain. Donations go into a separate, interest bearing bank account and will be used for the "Save the Steen House" effort. If something should go wrong and our efforts and the efforts of others like you fail to save the Steen House, any remaining donations or future donations will go to other Lee Steen preservation efforts. Contact us fast and help save another Lee Steen treasure. Later, we will post full info about the Steen House and the progress toward saving it. Hopefully, you may soon visit the house and experience the history first hand. So, let's get to work!!! Time is not on our side...

Best wishes,
T. L. Robertosn

UPDATE,
The Steen House sold to a married couple and we are now working with them to purchase the house. We were, and still are, fearful that they intended to raze the house and resell the building lots. So far, that is not the case and they are currently renting out the house. This, of course, is still not good and the fate of the Steen House is still up in the air.
