Totem Poles-
by artist, Gus Robertson
Totem Poles invoke many different reactions from people. They are a source of mystery to most, and fear to many. Most people think they are evil and un-godly. Some of these beliefs are from supersition, folklore, or even religion. Regardless, such ideas are all wrong. My deep research into them shows quite a different reality. They are more like a carved version of a family portrait. Much more than that, they honor the family and inspire those who own them to seek the positive in life. How well a Totem Pole accomplishes this, depends on the spirit of the carver. The more positive the input from the artist, the more positive the spirit of the pole. This, is simply the case for any creative process that we refer to as "art". I carved my first pole in 1993, and it was quite an enlightening experience. The pole that emerged, about 11 feet high, was wholly different from my original concept. The pole stands proudly in front of my art studio in Montana. Over the years, that first pole has shown me why it did a 180 degree turn from my orginal design. Before the carve, I had formulated a design idea and was determined to pursue that plan. I no more than set up to carve, when my mind went blank. I thought it was odd, but decided to go with the flow, and began to carve. Soon into the carve, I gave up on the fixed plan, carved away, and just waited to see what would emerge from the 110 year old Cedar tree. I was intrigued, amused, and perplexed at what did start to emerge. The figures and shapes, coming out of the wood, seemed to be guiding my movements as I carved them. When I was satisfied with the work, I primed and painted the pole in bright colors. The original reason, or so I thought, for carving the pole was to promote my latest business venture, and to attract customers. The pole did stand at that business, and did attract customers. Later, when I sold that business, the pole went to its present location. Not long after, I realized that instead of a simple gimmik to attract customers, I had brought forth a real Totem Pole. All along and throughout my life, I had drawn, painted, and carved but I never knew until then, that art in the form of a Totem Pole could have a life of its own. This pole continues to have a positive effect on my family, myself, and on all who witness it.

**14 foot Totem Pole order instructions-
Look here for the special instructions when ordering items with a price greater than $10,000. Our shopping system provider, PayPal.com
does not provide for a single item price greater than $10,000. We have thus, split the price
of our items, which are greater than $10,000, into two equal halfs on the Pay Pal
shopping page. An example would be: The 14 foot Totem Pole sells for $12,800. When you
click on the order button, you will see (one) item, listed at $6,400, or one half of the $12,800.
You simply need to select (2) items instead of (one) to equal the total purchase price.
In the case of the $12,800 Totem Pole, this would be 2 x $6,400, which then equals the total
purchase price. If you have questions or any other concern before or after ordering, be sure to call us at +1-406-470-0971. Thank you, and enjoy your purchase.
