The snow storm and frigid wind this evening did not stop the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department from emergency practice. After taking delivery on two wrecked cars at the new fire hall, one a sub-compact and the other a medium sized, the department got busy taking them apart. One car was upright and the other upside down, thus representing a two car crash. This practice session, like the one pictured above, was of pulling apart the autos and cutting them up with the "Jaws of Life." The Jaws of Life, shown below, can pop open crushed vehicle doors and slice through steel to free trapped persons in an accident.
