Driver Eludes Police

At about 5:00 p.m. Salem Police were notified of a vehicle coming in on Highway 22. The vehicle had gotten away from Monmouth police and headed for Salem on Highway 22. Polk County Sheriffs had no officer available at the time or in position to pursue. Salem police officers started to set up for the vehicle coming into town. An officer started pursuit in West Salem and across the Center Street Bridge. The vehicle had one male occupant. As the vehicle went through downtown it picked up another officer. Police deployed stop sticks at Center and 12th Street. The driver seen them and turned left onto Capitol headed northbound. The driver ran lights, failed to yield, drove into oncoming traffic, and was speeding at various points along the route. The vehicle finally hit a set of stop sticks and the chase ended at Salem Parkway and Verde Lane in Kiezer. After the suspect was taken unto custody an call from one of the officers to dispatch requested two new tires for one of the patrol cars involved in the pursuit. Comment at the link below.
