Staff and management of the newly located H-O Parts Plus store were moving like bees around a hive today as they stocked shelves and waited on customers. Today is their first full day open in the brand new building at 100 Main St. and customers were enjoying the big, open and bright store. Parts are now right out on shelves and racks accessible to customers instead of behind the counter in bins.

Firefighters were called out at 5:30 PM today to a house fire in the 300 block of 9 th Ave. North. As the family evacuated, an adult reported flames on the ceiling. A runaway truck caused a fair amount of damage Wednesday, Oct. 18 as it rolled away from the fuel pumps at Town Pump Pilot Center on the West side of Shelby. 6:30 AM There was a grass fire in the 700 block of 3rd St. South. The fire was on the hillside at that location near Mountain View Cemetery. Firefighters had the fire out in about fifteen minutes time just as the flames came within a few feet of a house on that hill. The area that burned had tall dry grass over one foot tall. NBMC Shelby Crossroads Correction Center, a private prison in Shelby, is moving ahead with the next level of expansion. The current expansion will house nearly 100 more inmates and help the prison better separate the Federal inmates from the State and general inmate population.
