One Vehicle Rollover At Shelby

May 11th, 2006 6:00 AM-
Toole County Sheriff received a call at about 3:54 AM that there was a vehicle on its side at the south I-15 exit into Shelby. A Sheriff Deputy responded and an ambulance was dispatched to the wreck. When the officer arrived he found no one inside or around the red late model pickup truck. The vehicle was on its side in the right-hand ditch of the curved Shelby exit. Long skid marks on the pavement and in the dirt of the ditch were very visible even in the dark of the early morning. Even as this article is being published, officers from Toole County, Pondera County and the Highway Patrol continue to hunt for the owner/driver of the wrecked pickup. They have driven and walked the highways and frontage roads as far as Valier but have not yet found anyone that was involved in the accident. Officers have also been checking local establishments and motels. High speed and possibly, alcohol my have contributed to the wreck. The vehicle can be seen in the lower center of the below photo. By the time we took the photo, the wrecker driver had pulled the pickup back onto its wheels. You can clearly see though, that the vehicle is facing the wrong direction for the exit. The patrol car is facing the right direction. When NBMC first arrived, before the officers returned, the vehicle was on its side facing the wrong direction. It appears that the vehicle was skiding backwards on the exit ramp when it entered the ditch. The lights around Pamida can be seen at the top of the photo.
