Shelby's Unknown Treasure

Shelby has an unknown treasure, it is called the "Steen House". The Steen House was built around a much older cabin by the now famous artist, Lee Steen. Although Lee Steen (1897-1975) was born in Kentucky and lived last at Roundup, Montana he also had a very strong connection to Shelby, Montana. Lee lived and worked here for some years and had a daughter that was born here, reportedly in the Steen House. We at NBMC have been working to save this treasure with the intent of turning it into a museum and interpretive center. Tourists now flock to see Lee Steen's art in Great Falls, Montana and they would come to Shelby as well.
